Meeting new people is hard — even in a room full of journalists

Talking to strangers is an essential part of being a journalist — you sometimes have to interview people you don’t know. It’s also an essential part of being at the Gloria Shields Workshop, where there are hundreds of students from different schools, and you may wind up in a class with none of your friends. Anna-Maya Hachmeister from Lawrence Free State High School writes about her own experience with breaking the ice at Gloria Shields.
